Student Builders

The future of this movement lies with the young people.” – Millard Fuller

A CALL TO ACTION

In a world with so many shacks, rising foreclosures, and deteriorating housing for America’s seniors, the housing situation can seem beyond any hope. You can sit back and hope "someone" does something about it, or YOU can get out and begin to change the world, even as a student.

YOU can make a difference by joining Fuller Center Student Builders. Student Builders is a network of committed youth partners who are a part of The Fuller Center’s mission and ministry. Together we can bring hope and the light of Christ to dark or neglected places.

So get out and hammer some nails, say a prayer, make new friends, ride a bike, raise a wall, travel overseas, create fundraisers, and join our movement.

Will YOU be the one to answer the call to get it started at your school or youth group?

ANSWERING THE CALL

Here are real, tangible ways you can get involved and make a difference.

  1. Start a Student Builders group. Become the founder of a faith-based, student-led service organization! Nothing is more exciting than knowing what you start as something small will impact the world in big ways for years and years to come.
  2. Form a mission partnership by getting your group, team, or club to get involved in our work. We welcome school sports teams, faith and service clubs, church youth groups, fraternities, sororities or any other group willing to help!
  3. Travel with us. Lead a builder team across the U.S. or travel abroad with our Global Builders program to places like El Salvador, Peru, Nigeria, Armenia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, or Haiti. These work great with spring break or other school breaks.
  4. Join the Bicycle Adventure. Every summer students bike with us around the U.S., building homes and spreading the word as they go. Join for the whole way or a segment - inexperienced cyclists welcome!
  5. Start a fundraising page and get others interested in the work of The Fuller Center. And then follow us on Twitter and Facebook!

OUR MISSION AND PURPOSE

Student Builders walk the talk and “Build on the Rock!” because we believe showing true faith in Jesus means turning his love for us into action for others (Matthew 7 & 25).

Fuller Center Student Builders seek to build

  1. each other up in Christ.
Building up each other, our partner families, and our communities in the love of Christ.
  2. support.
Raising money, speaking with local leaders, recruiting volunteers, and garnering gifts-in-kind.
  3. homes.
Volunteering on local worksites or traveling to work on a project elsewhere in the United States and abroad.
  4. awareness.
Getting the word out about the enormous need and all the ways people can help.

A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY: JOIN THE BICYCLE ADVENTURE!

The Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure launched in 2008 with eight cyclists riding from San Diego, Calif., to Savannah, Ga. Since then, more than $200 thousand has been raised for Fuller Center projects, at least 100 people have ridden with the Bicycle Adventure team and cities in 16 states have been visited and encouraged to be a part of this mission.

Plans for the 2010 edition are underway. The trip will acknowledge the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by ending in Louisiana with several days of service in New Orleans.

TAKE ACTION

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young” (1 Timothy 4:12). Students have so much to offer the affordable housing movement in terms of unique resources or connections, talents, insights, enthusiasm, and new ideas! We believe young people are not only the future of eliminating poverty housing, but are a powerful force TODAY.
