After the devastating earthquake of Jan. 12, 2010, billions of dollars in public and private funds poured into Haiti for relief and recovery efforts. Now, three years later, more than 350,000 Haitians still live in tents and fragile, makeshift shelters.

In the midst of responding to the needs of Sri Lankan flood victims, the Rev. Ranjan Fernando and his team of United Christian Fellowship of Sri Lanka relief workers had a dangerous brush with Mother Nature while delivering relief supplies in the Polonnaruwa area's Batathuna this past Friday.

Today's issue of the Armenian Reporter features a story on Suzanne Daghlian, a New Jersey resident who has made multiple trips to work with The Fuller Center for Housing in Armenia, which has built or repaired more than 200 homes in the country — often with the help of American volunteers and financial supporters. Though her two-week work trips to Armenia were fulfulling and led her to fall in love with the country and its people, she never felt like it was enough time away from the hustle and bustle of the publishing industry in Manhattan.

For the first time ever, The Fuller Center for Housing of Sri Lanka will welcome Global Builders teams to work with them to improve housing conditions in the island nation. Three teams are scheduled to work in Sri Lanka this year, and their trips could not come at a better time.

Five days after Hurricane Isaac roared ashore in Louisiana, teams from the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship responded to immediate needs in LaPlace, St. John the Baptist Parish, La.

Dozens of college students spent the week before Christmas working with various Fuller Center for Housing covenant partners. Among them were seven from the University of Cincinnati (via Serve Beyond Cincinnati) who worked in Cusseta, Ga., and at Koinonia Farm, near The Fuller Center's headquarters in Americus, Ga. The Fuller Center for Housing-Armenia set out to help 45 families with their housing situations in the past year. Instead, they helped 57.

The Fuller Center for Housing of Webster Parish has selected Derek Melancon to become the new executive director of the local housing ministry.

Though more recent disasters elsewhere have taken the spotlight off of Haiti nearly three years after a massive earthquake rocked the already poverty-stricken Caribbean nation, The Fuller Center for Housing's work there continues to grow.

Building in two main areas — near the earthquake's epicenter in Gressier and the northeast Port-au-Prince suburb of Croix-des-Bouquets — The Fuller Center's work is easily measurable in one way: A total of 71 new homes have been built, including 47 in 2012.
