Bike Adventure Blog

Today the riders took advantage of the heaven-sent day of rest. We spent the morning enjoying a dynamic sermon by Jim Carter at Arcadia United Methodist Church here in Spartanburg. Then we feasted on the food provided by church members.

Flexibility. Today was the day to live flexibility on the Bike Adventure. A relatively short ride was planned, 62 miles from Denton to Huntersville, N.C. Plus, we wanted to arrive at our destination of Hopewell Presbyterian Church after 2:30 p.m. to avoid a scheduling conflict.

Mark Benjamin met trip leader Ryan Iafigliola last year at Koinonia Farms outside of Americus, Ga. Mark joined the trip for a few days in 2009. This year he gathered a team from his church made up of Mark, Scott Smothers and James Berstein.

Oohhh, we're halfway there. Ride our bikes, we'll make it I swear... even if we do have multiple 80-plus mile days in a row. We have finished 25 days out of our 50-day trip. Today was fairly uneventful: we encountered a few gentle, rolling hills towards the end, but the ride was flat-ish for the most part. Don Steffa, who rode with us yesterday from Princeville, N.C.
